What Do Integrative and Functional Dietitians Do?
I have been asked by lots of people what is an Integrative Functional Dietitian. Integrative Medicine is the combination of practices and methods of alternative medicine with evidence-based medicine. It is the practice of medicine that reaffirms the importance of the relationship between practitioner and patient, focuses on the whole person, is informed by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches, healthcare professionals, and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing. Functional Medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. Functional medicine involves understanding the origins, prevention, and treatment of complex, chronic disease.
Integrative Registered Dietitian views food, eating, wellness, and exercise not just regarding calories or weight loss, but in physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual terms. I have been Secretary for the Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine (DIFM) for the past year, and I have learned so much about this field. Check out the fantastic DIFM video above about what Integrative Functional Dietitians do! Also, check out my website - https://www.livinghealthy1.org/services about the integrative functional services that I provide.
