Lemon (Citrus limon)


Recently, I have been using the lemon essential oil from Young Living's Vitality Dietary Essential Oils in my water lately. What a refreshing taste it has made in my water! Vitality Dietary Essential Oils is Young Living's only line that upgrades the taste of your food and beverages. I use a few drops and that fresh citrus flavor comes through. You can cook with this essential oil which gives a zest flavor in seafood, vegetables, beverages and dessert. Lemon essential oil is Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status in the US.


Not only can you use the lemon essential oil in your food you can also diffuse it in the diffuser. It gives a uplifting feeling that help reduce pain and anxiety. It also enhances mental alertness and gives a burst of sunshine.


If applying lemon oil topically, make sure to avoid the sun for several hours to avoid photo-sensitivity. Lemon essential oil can be can be dermal irritant for sensitive individuals. Conduct a patch test before use. It is also phototoxic. Avoid exposing application sites to sunlight for 12 to 24 hours following application.


Lemon is a favorite oil because of its fresh, clean fragrance and can be applied topically with a carrier oil or added to laundry or DYI home products. Lemon oil can support the immune system and it can be use with compress for muscle pain and stiffness.


Did you know that it takes 75 lemons to make one 15 ml bottle of lemon essential oil? This lemon oil is from the rind versus lemon juice which is from the inside of the fruit. It is a powerful detoxification agent and has a short-lasting light fresh odor reminiscent of the peel.

Mt. Shasta Lemon Muesli

(Serves 8-10)

3 cups quick-cooking oats

1 cup raw hulled sunflower seeds

1/2 cup raw green pumpkin seeds

1/4 cup raisins

3 Tablespoons raw unhulled sesame seeds

6 large soft dates (Medjool) or 12 medium dates

10 raw hazelnuts

10 raw almonds

5 drops Lemon oil


Mince dates and chop hazelnuts and almonds fine.


Mix together all ingredients, stirring essential oil in last. Store in a 1-quart jar. For each serving soak approximately 1 cup muesli with 1 cup water or juice to cover until oats have expanded (15-30 minutes). Alternatively, cook as you would regular oatmeal, adding extra Lemon oil right before serving.
