Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)

At the start of this new 2018 year, I became a Young Living Distributor because I believe in the 100% essential oils that they provide for clients and the wellness lifestyle that they have been teaching. Since being a newbie with the company, I wanted to experience the smell and the effect of all of the different essential oils that Young Living has to offer. Each month I am going to write in this blog of the various essential oils from Young Living and explain my reactions when applying these essential oils topically, aromatic and internal. There are very few essential oils are given internal, and only ones that are accepted internally are listed on the box label as a nutritional or supplement. FYI: Make sure avoid any essential oils that are toxic! Young Living Frankincense essential oil is labeled for topical and aromatic use and is not intended for internal consumption.

In honor of the Epiphany 2018 that happened on Saturday, January 6th, 2018, I am going to use Young Living Frankincense Essential Oil. The word ‘Epiphany’ originates from Greek, and its meaning is the manifestation of the divine. It can also refer to the moment of revelation. According to Western Christianity, the festival of Epiphany celebrates the three kings, also known as Magi, while visiting the baby Jesus after following the star to Bethlehem. The Oxford English Dictionary says Epiphany represents “the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles as represented by the Magi” in the Bible. The gospel of Matthew in the Bible describes how the kings followed the star and brought Jesus gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh..

My friend Marie Ruggles told me that she uses Frankincense essential oil through her diffuser when she is reading her daily scriptures and while having a prayer. She said that it keeps her focus and alert on studying what she is reading. I have a hard time in waking up in the mornings to concentrate on anything. So, I decided to try this out through my diffuser and see if this will work for me. I add my water to my diffuser and about 5-8 drops of frankincense 100% essential oil then I turn it on while I was reading my daily Scripture. In a manner of moments, I suddenly felt a little perky and focused on what I was reading. The aroma had a woody, earthy and also has a slightly fruity/sweet, warm, spicy attitude to it. The frankincense aroma has been known to stimulate the brains emotional center by causing a soothe and calm of the mind.

Another application method that frankincense essential oil also been used is topically for rheumatoid arthritis, muscle pain, stiffness and rejuvenating skin. I had some constant back pain and wanted to see if this really would work. I placed on my lower back 2–3 drops directly and this essential oil does not require any dilution. (Be careful of those who have sensitive skin using this essential oil). I waited for a short time to feel what happens when I suddenly felt a warm tension in my lower back area. I did feel less muscle tension in my lower back, but I know that it may take more applications to feel the effects of it. I am very impressed by this essential oil!
