Celebrate Black History Month!

I am back on this Black History Month and excited to let you know the importance of celebrating the people and events in the history of the African diaspora! Did you know that Black History Month was first created in February 1926 by Carter G. Woodson, known as the "father of Black history." It was called Negro History Week. It helped establish the field of African American studies and Carter G. Woodson's organization, the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History. This organization aimed was to encourage "people of all ethnic and social backgrounds to discuss the Black experience. "

Also did you know that every Black History Month that there has been a theme? I did not know until this year. Well, 2022 theme is focused on the importance of Black Health and Wellness. It acknowledges the legacy of Black scholars and medical practitioners in Western medicine and other ways of knowing throughout the African Diaspora. For more information about this check out for the ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF AFRICAN AMERICAN LIFE AND HISTORY website: https://asalh.org/

I will this month celebrate the importance of Black Health and Wellness and I encourage you to do the same. Spread the word to everyone to start celebrating Black History Month Today!!
